The secret behind wide-temperature embedded computers
01 June, 2009 by Abel Lee, Hunter Lin and Bruce Chen*Industrial applications are often associated with harsh, demanding environments. Facilities and key computing equipment may be located at remote sites where there is little or no protection from severe weather conditions or in industrial environments near sources of heat. Computers that are not designed to tolerate harsh conditions face significant limitations in how they can be used in industrial applications.
Prototyping hardware
18 May, 2009National Instruments has announced a suite of prototyping hardware that makes it possible for engineers and scientists to prototype industrial and embedded projects faster, reduce time to market and lower development costs. The five NI CompactRIO reconfigurable chassis feature a Xilinx Virtex-5 field-programmable gate array (FPGA). Additionally, the NI cRIO-9022 controller features a Freescale 533 MHz industrial real-time processor that delivers faster real-time processing for time-critical control applications.
