FiberSensing FS 6500 single-axis fibre Bragg grating accelerometer

The FS 6500 single-axis fibre Bragg grating (FBG) accelerometer from FiberSensing is a fibre-optic version of the conventional accelerometer. Completely passive, with an intrinsically safe design, it offers inherent insensitivity to environmental-induced noise. The device is suitable for applications requiring the measurement of low frequency and small amplitude accelerations.

The sensor was designed to allow outdoor installation under severe conditions and with no extra protection. Its robust design meets the IP68 protection standards and it includes an aluminium case and input and output fibre-optic armour cables. It provides high accuracy and high resolution measurements, and total fibre-optic design ensuring intrinsic immunity to electric sparks and EMI/RFI and no ignition risk.

Its high sensitivity and linearity, as well as the flat frequency response and low transverse sensitivity, make it suited to a large range of monitoring applications, such as ambient vibration monitoring of civil structures.

Compatible with most standard FBG measurement units, the device combines compact size and high resistance to corrosion and harsh environments with long-term reliability.

It is also suitable for remote sensing, making it possible to locate the sensor several kilometres away from the measurement unit. It offers intrinsic multiplex capability that allows the concatenation of a large number of sensors in a single optical fibre. It is therefore suitable for difficult-to-reach locations and large-scale sensing networks.

Accessories allow a compact, in-series mounting of two or three accelerometers in transverse directions for measuring vibration simultaneously along multiple axes.
