Vortex shedding tutorial - Part 3

21 April, 2011 by Wade Mattar and James Vignos, PhD, Foxboro, Invensys

In Parts 1 and 2 of this article on vortex shedding flowmeters we looked in detail at how they work and how they are constructed. In Part 3 we look at what needs to be considered in the application of vortex flowmeters.

Vortex shedding tutorial - Part 2

07 April, 2011

In Part 1 of this article on vortex shedding flowmeters we looked at the principles of their operation and the basic construction of the meter. In Part 2 we examine the transducer and the transmitter.

Eastern Instruments CentriFlow solids flowmeter

23 March, 2011 by

The CentriFlow solids flowmeter from Eastern Instruments is designed to replace weigh belts, impact meters, loss-in-weight meters and static weigh scales, where accuracy, low maintenance and zero drift are paramount.

Vortex shedding tutorial - Part 1

03 March, 2011

The vortex shedding flowmeter first emerged 25 to 30 years ago and has steadily grown in acceptance, since then, to be a major flow measurement technique. Its appeal is due, in part, to the fact that it has no moving parts yet produces a frequency output that varies linearly with flowrate over a wide range of Reynolds numbers.

Flowmeters help recover lost revenues and promote energy efficiency

25 February, 2011

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, operates a steam plant for its huge downtown campus, generating steam for almost 60 buildings, including three hospitals, the governor’s mansion and a museum. Three identical boilers produce around 163,000 tonnes of steam a year.

weber Sensors mini vent-captor type 3505/3022.30 airflow meter

29 October, 2010 by

The weber Sensors mini vent-captor type 3505/3022.30 is a remote airflow meter for industrial applications, suitable for small pipe sizes from ID 10 to 15 mm.

Siemens Sitrans FST020 clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter

14 October, 2010 by

The Sitrans FST020 clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter is designed specifically for basic applications that only require flow reading functionality along with easy communication capabilities. The device measures almost any liquid and meets the specific requirements of industries such as water and wastewater, HVAC, power and chemical. The flowmeter can be installed on pipes up to DN 9000 (9000 mm) in size and, because of the simplified configuration options and set-up, can be quickly commissioned.

Dwyer Series AVFS adjustable air flow switch

17 September, 2010 by

The Series AVFS adjustable air flow switch is specifically designed to monitor air flow in ducts and provides a 3A contact output to indicate a change or loss of flow. The AVFS will signal a loss of flow and the normally open SPST output will indicate the detected decrease. For ease of installation and system troubleshooting, the switch possesses a red/green LED indication to provide local status if the air flow is above (green) or below (red) the set point.

Series PFT paddlewheel flow sensor

17 September, 2010

The Series PFT paddlewheel flow sensor is designed for monitoring liquid flow in 3.8 to 100 cm pipes. The insertion design allows one model to be used for the full pipe size capability.

GE Panametrics AquaTrans AT868 liquid flow ultrasonic transmitter

23 August, 2010

The AquaTrans AT868 liquid flow ultrasonic transmitter combines ultrasonic flow measurement capability with a low-cost transmitter package that can be installed right at the process measurement point.

Endress+Hauser Promass E Coriolis flowmeter

12 August, 2010

Endress+Hauser’s Promass E is a Coriolis flowmeter with true 2-wire technology. Most 2-wire Coriolis meters are limited to using only 12-20 mA due to their power requirements, whereas the Promass E offers the full output range of 4-20 mA, thereby offering twice the resolution and accuracy.

Trimec RT20 flow rate totaliser

05 July, 2010 by

Trimec has released the RT20 flow rate totaliser in a robust metal housing. This instrument is compatible with most manufacturers’ flowmeters and comes with scaled pulse and high/low flow alarm outputs as standard.

Sentinel LCT/LNG ultrasonic flowmeter

04 July, 2010

The Sentinel LCT/LNG ultrasonic flowmeter is designed to provide accurate flow measurement of hydrocarbon liquid and cryogenic liquid application. Extensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been used to ensure high accuracy, viscosity independence and reliable flow measurement.

Trimec RT20 flow rate totaliser

02 July, 2010

Trimec has released the RT20 flow rate totaliser in a robust metal housing. This instrument is compatible with most manufacturers’ flowmeters and comes with scaled pulse and high/low flow alarm outputs as standard.

ABB WaterMaster self-verifying electromagnetic flowmeter

21 June, 2010 by

ABB has announced that their electromagnetic WaterMaster flowmeter, designed specifically for the water, wastewater and effluent sewage markets, now has an in-situ flowmeter verification capability. Built into the flowmeter the VeriMaster system has the ability to perform in-situ verification across the full range.
