Intended to provide a seamless high capacity extension to existing networks, Hirschmann industrial ethernet have released the BAT54-Rail wireless LAN radio.

Along with a ruggedised design typical of the Hirschmann industrial ethernet range, and low packet loss features, the module also includes a large range of encryption, authentication and firewall capabilities, including rogue access point detection, to provide network security.

The BAT54-Rail features IP routing, a DHCP server and PoE and VLAN capabilities. The unit complies with 802.11b/g and 802.11a/h communications with dual band (2.4 or 5 GHz) operation, and the MultiSSID feature allows up to eight virtual WLANS to provide authenticated and segregated access to various user groups — say engineering, IT, management and even visitors.

Dual independent radio modules allow flexible topology design — including access point, bridge, router, master/slave, as well as capability for full-duplex relay bridging.

Redundant wireless connection is available using the rapid spanning tree protocol, and the BAT54-Rail has a high tolerance to temperature, vibration, EMI and shock.

The BAT54-Rail comes with DIN rail mount, redundant 24 VDC supply connections, and IP40 rating to suit industrial environments including mobile machinery. Also available is an IP65 external mount option with in-built antenna and lightning protection, and two additional antenna connections, which suit remote location installation.
