The BAT54-Rail WLAN Client from Hirschmann Automation and Control allows mobile terminal devices in the production environment to be securely connected to the wireless network. It is designed for a temperature range of between -30 and +50 °C. It also fulfils the requirements of the IP40 protection class as well as all relevant specifications regarding shock and vibration resistance and electromagnetic compatibility. The integrated Fast Roaming function can be adapted specially to industrial ethernet protocols such as Profinet or Ethernet/IP, enabling stable connection when changing from one radio cell to another.

The BAT54-Rail Client supports all standardised encryption and authentication procedures in accordance with IEEE 802.11i and 802.1x. The radio module has two diversity antenna connections, for which a total of 10 different round beam and sector antennas are provided. The wireless transfer rate — in either 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz band as desired — is up to 108 Mbps.

The WLAN Client can be mounted on DIN rails as well as on the wall. For a redundant power supply, two 24 V as well as a 12 and a 48 V PoE connection are available. Configuration and diagnostics can be performed either with a browser (web-based management), Telnet or Windows-based software.
