Universal serial device gateway

Advantech has announced the release of the ADAM-4579, the fast ethernet-enabled data gateway between RS232/422/485 and ethernet interfaces.

The ADAM-4579 allows almost any device with serial ports to connect to ethernet and shared networks quickly, providing a cost-effective way for remote data management and accessibility to devices that ordinarily would not be able to connect to the network.

With the ADAM-4579, existing serial devices can be integrated with the majority of operating systems, without the need of developing drivers for each individual operating system. Features include 10/100Base-T ethernet, multiple networking architecture: polling, event handling and peer-to-peer, standard networking API: Win Socket, socket, surge protection, and auto-search Windows configuration utility.

The ADAM-4579 also offers powerful functions such as: high-speed data transfer, advanced security protection, auto-detection of all network-linked EDG series products, remote firmware download and more. The transmission speed of the ADAM-4579 is up to 230 Kbps.

The ADAM-4579 also provides a security option that protects all configuration settings from being changed inadvertently. All these features enhance network security and reduce system malfunction, preventing unauthorised changes being made to the system. The ADAM-4579 also allows users to remotely download programs to a designated device via the ethernet, reducing the need for on-site maintenance and diagnostics.
