Omron's ZX Smart sensor uses laser displacement technology to accurately measure the thickness of a continuously moving product. Using a scan time of just 150 µS, it can average up to 4096 different measurements and provides a series of outputs, including three digital judgments and linear analog. The ZX Smart sensors can achieve thickness measurements with resolutions of 0.25 µm.
ZX Smart sensors are available in either diffuse, reflective and through-beam types; with a maximum sensing distance of 2 m amplifiers can also provide a communications interface for other devices.
Three-dimensional monitoring of product is achievable when ZX Smart sensors are used in conjunction with Omron's F10 vision system, which provides a two dimension view, usually from the top. Significantly, both sensors can operate and interact fast enough for real-time control. This is important, as it allows manufacturers to adjust output, either manually or automatically via another controlling system.
