Pressure equipment, vessels and boilers have risks and hazards associated with them and the design, manufacture, testing, inspection and weld of these devices needs to meet an acceptable level of safety.
Standards Australia has just revised two important pressure equipment Standards.
AS 4041-2006, Pressure piping. This Standard includes the minimum requirements for materials, design, fabrication, testing, inspection, reports and pre-commissioning of piping subject to internal pressure, external pressure or both.
The new version reflects changes in the International Standards and the latest technology and materials available. This edition outlines steps to protect the general public, installers, operators and anyone in adjacent property and environment. It also takes into consideration pipes designed prior to this revision.
AS/NZS 3788:2006, Pressure equipment-In-service inspection. It provides the specifications for inspecting, repairing and altering in-service boilers, pressure vessels, piping, safety equipment and pressure equipment.
The new revision places more emphasis on using competent bodies and personnel for all aspects of the inspection and assessment processes, which reflects current OHS regulations. Minimum inspection intervals are included and can be varied. The appendices have been revised to include guidance on inspecting support structures.
