Engineered Products Group (EPG) has announced the arrival of the Sumitomo helical shaft mount (HSM).
Available in the standard three ratios 5:1, 13:1 and 20:1, the HSM also retains the shaft centres making them totally interchangeable with the existing SMSR units. Many of the standard unit components are interchangeable, such as Sumitomo's patented design Taper-Grip Bush which will easily transmit the torque and shock overload capacity of the selected gearbox.
The bush is easier to install, has increased torque transmitting capacity of up to 300%, while allowing for much easier removal of the shaft mount from the driven shaft, thus alleviating what has long been a common problem with the other gearbox designs.
The HSM's higher torque ratings are achieved using the latest in gear technology, a 25 degree pressure angle, 14 degree helix angle, combined with a slightly wider gear face delivering increased torque in a much smaller package.
Deep groove ball bearings are used as standard on input and output with an option of taper roller bearings for applications experiencing high axial loading. The bearings and seals used conform to ISO standards and are readily available worldwide. All units are supplied standard with the torque arm fitting utilising a turnbuckle design allowing for quick and easy adjustment of the belt system.
Available accessories for the HSM include the centrifugal design backstops, belt guards, motor mounts, direct IEC flange mounts, hydraulic inputs and Taconite sealing system for effective protection in severe applications and extended operations.
