The Redel D offers high quality signal transmission in both single and multimode operation.
It can be mounted onto either 250 micron coated fibre or 900 micron tight buffered fibre. Using a 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule, the plugs measure 3.2 mm outside diameter and 6 mm in length. The coupler is 5 mm in outside diameter and 10 mm in length and therefore the D series is suitable for applications where space and weight are at a premium and where quality transmission is of critical importance.
As a change from Lemo's self-latching push pull range, the Redel D is a snap-on/pull-off connector with a typical life cycle of up to 30 matings without affecting optical performance. Due to the size of the product, a tool is required for de-coupling.
Termination is straightforward with typical performance being a mean insertion loss better than 0.25 dB and a mean return greater loss than 45 dB when UPC machine polished.
The revolutionary features of the Redel D means it is designed for use in communication applications, miniature opto-electronic circuit boards, medical devices and avionics circuitry. It can also be used as a replacement for fibre splicing when periodic disconnection provides a design advantage. Its key features are: subminiature size - when mated approximately 21 mm length and plug diameter 3.2 mm; low mass: - less than 2 g when mated; snap-on/pull-off fastening system (de-coupled using special tool); compatibility with TO-18 transmitter/emitter devices; fully floating ferrule; and simple termination.
The termination workstation includes instructions for termination and hand and machine UPC polishing procedures.
