Western Australia’s $200 million marine infrastructure project now open
Wednesday, 11 February, 2004
The Australian Marine Complex at Jervoise Bay, 25 km south of Perth, is set to become the largest marine engineering and fabrication complex in Australia following the investment of some $200 million by the state and federal governments.
Expected to create at least 1000 full-time jobs and to generate income of $200 million a year after it moves into full production during 2004, the complex gives Australia world-class infrastructure for the fabrication, assembly and maintenance of large-scale components for domestic and international projects. These will include work associated with the burgeoning demand for offshore structures by the gas, petroleum and resources industries.
The complex covers 180 hectares of waterfront and associated land immediately south of the Henderson shipbuilding complex — home to yacht builder Oceanfast, the high-speed aluminium ferries manufacturer Austal Ships and the Tenix range of ferries, tugs and offshore support craft.
