The global patent to a world-first water remediation technology developed in Australia has been acquired by ASX-listed IMT Holdings Limited.

Sydney-based IMT Holdings Limited has reached agreement with the CSIRO to acquire the patent to 'Phoslock', an environmental water remediation product which removes phosphorus from water bodies. Since being commercialised only five months ago, Phoslock is now being sold in 13 countries.

Under the current arrangements, IMT has a worldwide licence to manufacture and market it until the expiry of CSIRO's patent in December 2017. IMT pays CSIRO a quarterly royalty on all Phoslock sales.

Phoslock is produced as a modified natural clay product which, when added to water, removes soluble phosphorus from water bodies and breaks the algae cycle. It caps sediments and prevents remobilisation of phosphorus. It is stable at varying pH, low in toxicity and environmentally non-hazardous. It is safe to handle and easy to apply.
