Uranium mine receives go-ahead

Uranium One has received construction approval for its Honeymoon mine in southern Australia, which is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.

The approval of the mining and rehabilitation plan clears the way for US-based Uranium One to build its drilling and processing facilities on the site, which uses the in-situ leach mining method to extract uranium.

“It’s positive and it’s one of the boxes that needs to be checked,” said Chris Sattler, vice-president of investor relations.

The mine received its 10-year export permit last January.

The mine has indicated resources of 3000 tonnes of uranium and should produce 400 tonnes a year at full capacity.
