Swedish technology improves cutting accuracy

Westlink Engineering has launched what it claims is the first four-jet water cutting service in Australia, using advanced technology from Sweden, an overall infrastructure investment exceeding $750,000.

According to John Anastassiou, Westlink Group's joint managing director, the water jet cutter allows the precision cutting of materials of greater thickness than would be possible with laser or plasma cutters and with a better finish.

"Waterjet Sweden AB has improved cutting accuracy to ±0.2 mm at a thickness of 50 mm, and the machine can cut to a thickness of 150 mm, including steel, glass and exotic materials like titanium, as well as stone, plastics, acrylics and composites," Anastassiou said.
