The University of Sydney has appointed Professor Greg Hancock, a member of the University's academic community and world expert in engineering construction, as new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
Professor Hancock, who holds the BlueScope Steel Chair of Steel Structures and, until recently, was Chairman of the Centre for Advanced Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, has been associated with the University for over 39 years.
Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sydney, Professor Gavin Brown welcomed the appointment. "Professor Hancock brings a high record of personal achievement in engineering innovation and an outstanding record of industry collaboration. This gives me great confidence in the Faculty's future."
Accepting his appointment and looking to the future of the Engineering Faculty, Professor Hancock said: "This is a huge job. The Engineering faculty has 3000 students and a $33 million budget, but it is a role that I am looking forward to."
Professor Hancock replaces Professor Judy Raper, who has taken up a senior appointment at the University of Missouri, Rolla.
