Recycling to aid developing countries

Many aid projects in developing countries are concerned with providing a better water supply in terms of purification and distribution. Krohne and its clients are playing a role in improving the quality of life for millions of people, leveraging off its expertise and the durability of its flowmeters.

Krohne collects used flowmeters, checking them for usefulness, and reconditions and (re)calibrates them. These meters are then offered to recognised organisations active in water-related projects in developing countries. The flowmeters are guaranteed not to be sold again afterwards. The company furthermore guarantees the proper functioning of every single device for ten years, even though some meters are up to 20 years old already.

Krohne relies heavily on the participation of its customers in this rewarding program. In fact, all used flowmeters are useful: large measuring range, small measuring range, in good or bad condition. A meter that is in a bad condition can in most cases be reconditioned to function properly again. Restrictions only exist with regard to what the flowmeter has previously been used for. Devices which have been used in chemical applications are carefully checked to determine whether these can still be used safely in drinking water applications.
