QMan’s first day a success
Wednesday, 18 October, 2006
The first day of the 2006 Queensland Manufacturing Technology Exhibition (QMan) was a resounding success, with exhibitors reporting a steady flow of good quality visitors and standing room only at seminars.
The exhibition is being held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and is open until 4 pm today (October 19).
The QMI Solutions seminars on Lean manufacturing and 5S have proved popular, with standing room only for both first-day seminars.
"The first seminars exceeded our expectation," said Steve Bryant, marketing manager of QMI Solutions.
The Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation is using QMan to promote its career pathways program Create it, Make it, Live it!, which is designed to address the skills shortage by making careers in manufacturing more attractive to young people.
"Our goal is to change the image of manufacturing," said Patricia Douglas, spokesperson for the Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation.
"On the first morning we met a local manufacturer who was very interested to learn about our program, and we'll be working closely with him to help his company become a workplace of choice."
