Professional services company GHD has been engaged by APC, a consortium of AGL and Petronas, to provide front-end engineering and design services for the Australian leg of the proposed multi-billion-dollar gas pipeline from Papua New Guinea to Australia.

GHD's work will focus predominantly on the design of the Cape York to Gladstone leg and extension to southern markets. According to GHD's Jim Thompson, manager Oil, Gas and Energy, GHD's work will assist APC to progress its portion of the project towards financial close in 2006.

The pipeline will transport natural gas from the highlands of Papua New Guinea to markets in various Queensland locations. Initial gas deliveries to customers are expected to begin in 2009.

GHD employs 3500 people in an integrated network of more than 60 offices throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
