National robotics innovation competition

An industry-sponsored robotics innovation competition will be launched at an information evening on 7 March.

ABB Australia and the Society of Automotive Engineers Australia (SAE-A) are calling on students, employers and universities to attend the information and networking event, which will be held at the ABB Notting Hill facility and via video link with the ABB Sydney, Perth and Queensland offices.

The National Robotics Innovation Competition will see students teaming up with employers to design and develop an application of a robot in a work cell or process in an industrial application.

Students will then have the opportunity to present their proposal to a committee of experts in the field.

Proposals will be evaluated on savings generated, innovation, safety, likelihood of success and presentation quality.

The winner of the competition will have their idea simulated in Robot Studio.

Other prizes include ABB simulation software, ABB work experience in the robotics division and robotics programming training courses.

The launch event will include presentations on robot applications in history and a tour of the ABB Notting Hill facility.
