Manufacturing employment on the rise

Employment expectations in manufacturing are up 9.5 percentage points from last year according to the latest quarterly TMP Worldwide Job Index.

Nationally, only 10.8% of employers have plans to downsize, with the majority (63.2%) keeping staff sizes the same and 24.8% expecting to hire, resulting in a net effect of 14%.

South Australia's manufacturing industry was the best performed of all Australian states with 43.6% of employers expected to increase staff in the next quarter and only 9% expecting a decrease. The resulting net effect of 34.6% is 20.6 percentage points above the national average for the industry.

For those with manufacturing skills, 1.2% of national job opportunities are expected to be within this discipline.
