Areas such as IT, biotechnology, nanotechnology, microelectronics, telecommunications and environmental management all rely to a great degree on materials technology as an important underpinning technology.

Through its research partners, Future Materials provides materials testing, consulting and an interface for industry to explore higher levels of technology within the materials field. Future Materials will link industry to world class testing facilities, as well as with scientists, engineers and technicians, whose core competencies are materials, surface interactions and coatings. There are many key areas in which their knowledge and experience can be harnessed with work being carried out in many industry sectors ranging from life sciences to mining.

The primary goal of Future Materials is to increase the innovative capacity of an industry and to enhance global competitiveness by providing industry, particularly small to medium enterprises, with access to leading materials technology, sophisticated facilities, expertise and information.
