Siemens Dematic's PickDIRECTOR Pick-to-Light system received a prestigious award for excellence in Engineering Design in the recently held Australian Design Awards.
Organised by Standards Australia, and presented at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Friday May 9, the Australian Design Awards recognise and reward excellence in Australian product design and innovation. PickDIRECTOR also received Australian Design Marks in the Industrial Design and Software-Electronics Design categories.
The PickDIRECTOR Pick-to-Light system is an electronic paperless picking system used in order fulfilment applications in warehouses and distribution centres to direct and control the processing of customer orders.
PickDIRECTOR's order management and control software takes orders direct from a company's computer system and issues picking instructions electronically to people in the picking area. The picking instructions are viewed on electronic alphanumeric display devices located at each product storage area. When an item is required for an order, a display unit lights up, flashes and indicates the quantity of the product to be picked, making it almost foolproof.
Siemens Dematic developed the PickDIRECTOR Pick-to-Light system in Australia in conjunction with industrial design consultancy, Design+Industry. PickDIRECTOR has been successfully commercialised and is now manufactured in the USA and marketed throughout the world by Siemens Dematic, with more than 50,000 units having been sold globally.
