Alcoa releases first sustainability report

Alcoa World Alumina Australia has released its first sustainability report covering Alcoa's operations in Australia, including Alcoa Kaal and Portland Aluminium.
Alcoa Managing Director Wayne Osborn said Alcoa in Australia 2002 Sustainability Report marked a change in reporting style and highlighted Alcoa's on-going commitment to four key areas of responsive and responsible management: economic achievement, environmental management, health and safety performance and strengthening the company's community and employee relations.
"We have regularly reported much of the information and data in this report in one form or another for decades. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary year in Australia, this is the first time these elements have been drawn together to provide an integrated sustainability perspective on our performance in Australia," he said. "As we have moved into this new sustainability format of reporting to our communities, government and stakeholders, we have relied on the reporting framework emerging from the voluntary Global Reporting Initiative to guide the structure of the report."
