Advanced manufacturers plan to make it globally
Thursday, 22 June, 2006
The advanced manufacturing industry has announced its intention to boost its international competitiveness by integrating with global supply chains, with the launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Action Agenda.
Australian Industry Minister, Ian Macfarlane, launched the agenda which places priority on accessing new markets and providing opportunities for smaller Australian companies to grow into global players.
"The title of the report "“ 'Making it Globally' "“ captures both the vision and the growth strategy for the industry in the changing world of manufacturing," said Macfarlane at the launch.
"It's imperative that manufacturers use this opportunity to plan for new ways of plugging into the supply chains of key global industries. Export strategies are increasingly the key to the growth and future of our manufacturers."
"The Action Agenda recognises the power of company collaboration in winning business in the global market place. To support this, I am announcing a broadening of the Industry Cooperative Innovation Program guidelines."
Industry will be consulted on plans to broaden the program guidelines to increase support for projects involving international collaboration. The program will provide $25 million of industry assistance until June 2011.
