2003 Logistics Development Award announced
Tuesday, 02 December, 2003
The Logistics Association of Australia (LAA) has announced that the 2003 Logistics Development Award (LDA), sponsored by CHEP Australia, has been won by Peter Bainbridge, Logistics Manager of a large Melbourne-based importer which distributes to over 1400 retail outlets within Australia and New Zealand.
Peter Bainbridge's award winning paper 'Experiences with Asian Consolidation' drew upon insights he gained through his involvement with the remapping of an Australian importer's supply chain to facilitate consolidation and labelling of stock in Asia. This innovative project allowed goods to be packed to store order and sent direct to the port nearest the receiving store, rather than through a Melbourne warehouse, as was the previous practice. All indications from suppliers are that the 2003 import program will be a huge success, largely due to the processing capability that has now been established in Asia. With the high reliance of Australia on goods manufactured in the Asian region, there are significant possibilities for supply chain savings.
The Logistics Development Award has long been Australia's most valuable, logistics industry award, presented annually by the LAA. The award presents logisticians with a number of opportunities to develop their personal skills and careers.
