In workplaces where noise levels depend on location, and with production processes with varying noise levels or intermittent noise, it is sometimes difficult to decide whether ear protection is required.

SoundEAR XL is designed to provide visual indication of when ear protection is required. When noise levels exceed a preselected level, a large red silhouette of a head with earmuffs is illuminated. Employees can then take hearing protection steps or move away from the noise.

Dust and water resistant, the SoundEAR XL can be used indoors as well as outdoors. At about the size of an A2 poster, the SoundEAR XL is designed to be seen easily from long distances and is therefore suitable for large factories, workshops, aircraft hangers and other industrial settings.

By coupling the SoundEAR XL with the optional USB SoundLOG, real-time noise exposure readings can be collected. A record of the noise levels reached over a day, a job or up to four weeks of continuous levels can be collected. This data can be used to provide reports on noise levels generated and employee noise exposure levels.

If the source of noise needs to be indicated in a different location, an optional microphone can be connected via cable up to 10 m from the SoundEAR XL.
