Understanding deep packet inspection for SCADA security

Tuesday, 08 October, 2013

Manufacturing infrastructures are facing a security crisis because of legacy products and systems. The industry has embraced new technologies but many systems weren’t designed with security in mind and are therefore now exposed to increased risk.

An advanced technology called deep packet inspection (DPI) can offer a control solution against malicious attacks until more secure ICS and SCADA devices and protocols are used. This paper explains what DPI is and how it compares to traditional IT firewalls.
