Semaphore has announced first shipments of Kingfisher SCADA system RTU products with Secure DNP3 Authentication.
This functionality is compliant with a security extension, which has recently been ratified by the DNP Users Group Steering Committee. The extension mandates the authentication of master devices through the use of one-way cryptographic hash functions employing a shared key in order to access critical DNP functions. Authentication ensures that messages arriving at the RTU come from the control centre, or other legitimate asset, in the SCADA system.
Secure DNP3 protocol authentication represents one of a number of features in Semaphore’s security initiative for its RTU product line. Those initiatives comprise cyber security and physical security functions in order to ensure security for the SCADA system, and the assets and processes it manages.
Semaphore’s Kingfisher RTU line provides many advanced features for SCADA system solutions, including redundant configurations, intelligent I/O and open programming that is compliant with IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499. The contemporary Kingfisher product line includes the Kingfisher Plus and G30 models.
Kingfisher Plus is an advanced, modular RTU that offers expansion up to 1000 I/O points. The G30 is a compact RTU that extends the full capabilities of Semaphore’s Kingfisher PLUS+ product line to small SCADA system applications requiring up to 32 I/O points. Kingfisher RTU systems are well suited to large, demanding measurement and control applications.
