Hygienic rotary lobe pump

For processes requiring high level cleanability, SSP Pumps has unveiled its Series X range of rotary lobe pumps (RLPs). Its characteristic smooth low shear pumping action is suitable for assured gentle handling of delicate and sensitive media. The pumps also comply with the European Hygienic Equipment Design Group (EHEDG), USA 3-A Sanitary Standard and FDA regulations.

The series X range with pump head displacements of 0.05 to 3.8 L/rev is capable of flow rates up to 115 m3/h and pressures up to 15 bar. The series X range has a robust cast iron gearbox with a universal gearbox design for model X1 to X4. This gives the flexibility of mounting pumps with the inlet and outlet ports in either a vertical or horizontal plane simply by changing the foot and its position. If EHEDG design and installation compliance and conformity to the Machinery Safety Directive 89/392/EEC (1989) is required, a dedicated vertical port option will be supplied. A tough epoxy paint gearbox finish provides protection against natural and corrosive elements.

Series X pumps have full through-bore inlet and outlet ports to international standards. This reduces inlet and outlet port losses, thereby lowering NPSH requirements. Vertical porting and the range's rotorcase internal profile enhances self-draining and self-venting while maintaining volumetric efficiency. A self-cleaning design rotor retention device incorporates a high integrity cup seal to fully isolate splines from the pumped media. The precise involute splines ensure accurate rotor synchronisation.

All the pumps in the range have four lobe rotors, designed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to develop the optimum rotor geometry. Rotors are rated to 150°C facilitating use with CIP and SIP processes. All metallic pumped media wetted components are manufactured in 316L stainless steel.
