Leuze BCL 548i bar-code reader with integrated ProfiNet

Tuesday, 20 July, 2010 | Supplied by: Balluff Pty Ltd

The BCL 548i is a bar-code reader with integrated ProfiNet and integrated switch technology, allowing it to be used in a line network structure, minimising cabling requirements and offering a high level of flexibility.

With the integrated ProfiNet interface, the usual path via an additional gateway is eliminated. The device is configured by selecting modules directly in the control and then transferring them from the control directly to the device. Should it be necessary to swap out a device, the configuration is automatically taken over by the new device. By means of the integrated switch function of the BCL 548i, additional devices can be connected to one another in the ProfiNet fieldbus network.

The BCL 548i connects via standard M12 sensor plugs and the dovetail technology and four M4 threaded holes are designed to make installation simple and convenient.

The user can select from four different optics models for various module widths ranging from 0.25 to 1.0 mm. With identical reading fields, all are available as line scanners, oscillating mirror models or deflecting mirror models. The optics of the BCL 548i, with a symmetrical, optical opening angle of ±30°, permit wide opening of the reading field with large depth of field.

High reading reliability is achieved through code reconstruction technology (CRT). The advantages of this technology are particularly apparent with turned labels, with short label heights or with codes that must be read at extreme inclines. Even partly damaged or soiled codes can be read.
