Research to enhance thickener performance
Amira International has announced a research project aimed at enhancing the performance of thickeners used in hydrometallurgy and other minerals processing and handling applications.
With the research conducted by CSIRO Minerals, the Parker CRC for Hydrometallurgy and the University of Melbourne, the three-year program will involve core experimental studies (laboratory, pilot-scale and site-based) to provide the basis for model development.
Alternative thickening concepts that could potentially produce step changes in performance will also be considered.
The techniques, tools and knowledge generated by the project will be transferred to the sponsors of the program, including Alcoa, BHP Billiton, FLDSmidth, Metso, and Rio Tinto, amongst others.
