Endress+Hauser Promass 83X/84X four-tube Coriolis mass flow meter
The Promass 83X/84X is claimed to be the world’s first large, four-tube Coriolis mass flow meter. The 14″ (DN350) diameter flowmeter is suitable for measuring the mass flow, density and temperature of oil, gas and other fluids in large pipes, at flow rates up to 4100 tonnes/h.
Measuring flow with high accuracy in large pipelines has always been difficult, yet is crucial with valuable commodities such as crude oil. Previously, less-accurate conventional flowmeters with errors of 1% on larger pipe sizes were used. Based on typical flow rates, this error represents 300 barrels of crude oil per hour, or about $30,000 per hour in losses based on current pricing of $100 per barrel. With ±0.05% accuracy, the Promass 84X is designed specifically for custody transfer applications, with the relevant MID (OIML R117) and PTB approvals. There are no moving parts, so maintenance is minimised.
The Promass X is constructed of 316L stainless steel with secondary containment for increased process safety, making it suitable for offshore applications or applications involving toxic or hazardous liquids or gases. Available with 12, 14 and 16″ flanged end connections, it fits into most large pipelines worldwide. It is suitable for process temperatures of -50 to +180°C and process pressures up to 100 bar. Communication options include 4-20 mA, HART, Profibus DP/PA, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or Modbus. It has an IP67 rating and IECEx approvals for explosive hazard environments, and fulfils EMC requirements according to IEC/EN 61326 and NAMUR NE21 and EU and ACMA directives.
