Lumberg Automation has developed a bus coupler with a Profinet interface for the modular, decentralised LioN-Link system. This bus coupler has an integrated switch which enables Profinet network wiring in Profibus network line topology. In addition, there is an integrated web server where settings can be made using a standard web browser, calling up device information, setting IP addresses directly, and displaying status and diagnostics data for the connected LioN-Link I/O modules. The integration of a monitoring function makes it possible to monitor the sensors and actuators connected to the I/O modules.
Fieldbuses such as Profibus, DeviceNet and CANopen are supported by the LioN-Link system. Future options will include the integration of ethernet and Profinet. LioN-Link consists of bus coupler modules, which provide the connection between the super ordinate fieldbus and the fieldbus independent I/O modules. The connection between the fieldbus coupler and the I/O modules is handled through standard wiring components such as CAN/DeviceNet Drop or Thin Cable.
Two link exits are located on each bus coupler, each capable of handling up to 15 assorted I/O modules respectively. The total extension of each strand is 100 m at any clearance between individual I/O modules (max 100 m). The link wiring is carried out in a simple line topology. A terminator is no longer required to terminate the circuit at the end of the bus, as in traditional bus systems. Only a protective cap is necessary for the mechanical sealing of the relaying link exit in order to guarantee the IP67 protection.
