Pepperl+Fuchs has expanded its K-System range of isolated barriers for DIN rail mounting with the KCD2-SCS* interface module. A 2-channel analog I/O intrinsic safety barrier with dual functionality, the module can be individually configured for analog input or output control signals. Its compact 12.5 mm housing and high packing density of 6 mm per channel allow for space-saving integration in control cabinets.

HART-compatible, these modules can serve as smart transmitter power supplies for two-wire transmitters or as smart current drivers for valve positioners. The module supports both current sink and current source operation on the control side, with a convenient switchover using DIP switches on the front panel.

These modules allow the user to configure each channel separately, allowing for positioner control on one channel and position monitoring on the second. Positioners ensure the actuator reaches the position specified by the control system, while analog position indicators provide feedback, confirming the position — such as stroke or rotation angles — typically transmitted as 4–20 mA signals to the control system. Previously, separate isolator modules were required for input and output signals, but with this module, both functions can be combined in one device. The modules are also versatile — if they are no longer needed for their original function after system changes, their configurability allows them to be repurposed elsewhere.
