SG Transmission Series 62 fail-safe electromagnetic brakes

Thursday, 11 July, 2013 | Supplied by: Automated Motion Systems Pty Ltd

The SG Transmission Series 62 electromagnetic brakes are designed for fail-safe operation. When power to the unit is interrupted, the brake is energised by a permanent magnetic disk that attracts a steel armature plate and the brake is locked. When power is returned to the coil, the brake is released, allowing motion to occur.

The electromagnetic brakes are suitable for improving safety on machines using stepper and servo motors with heavy vertical loads. If the power fails, the brake locks and the load is prevented from falling.

The brakes use rare earth permanent magnets and efficient 24 VDC coils to reduce heating and power consumption. Holding torques range from 0.4 to 30 Nm with a range of sizes from 28 to 110 mm diameter. The brakes are asbestos free.
