Omron recently released its CJ2M family of PLC CPUs. Evolving from the CJ1M family, the CJ2M improves performance, features and functionality. Smaller models allow an affordable entry into advanced automation, while models at the high end enable scalable solutions.

The CJ2M family features 10 models, including ones with built-in EtherNet/IP support. USB programming is also supported, with every CJ2M including a USB port.

Execution times have been lowered to 40 ns for an LD instruction, 120 ns for an MOV, and system overhead time is down to 160 µs.

Dedicated function block memory has been added to all CPUs, resulting in net gains in effective memory. Data memory has also doubled. The usual features and functionality expected from an advanced PLC are available, such as wide-ranging communications and remote I/O options, servo control options, and a CF slot for data logging to memory cards. Significant new features include data structures in programming, and symbol-tag server support on EtherNet/IP models.

When combined with Omron CJ2H CPUs, further up-scaling is possible. CJ2H PLCs are suitable for larger applications and, because they are compatible with CJ2M programs, share a common foundation using CJ1W hardware.
