ABB USB disk drive replacement kit for robot controllers S4 to S4C

Friday, 17 September, 2010 | Supplied by: ABB Australia Pty Ltd

ABB has introduced a USB disk drive replacement kit for its robot controllers models S4 to S4C. The kit is a package upgrade solution that replaces existing and often unreliable, hard to source floppy disk drive unit, and disks with a USB connection point. The kit lets users transfer all their stored programs and data to a standard USB memory stick and also provides a connection point for a PC.

The replacement kit provides a safeguard for data and programs, which can cost thousands of dollars to develop, and are among the most valuable parts of a robot system. This is important, as the life expectancy of a floppy disk drive is less than a third of the rest of the robot system and may be the first part to fail.

The main benefits of the kit are faster transfer time and lower risk of data loss, and up to 100 times the storage capacity of the floppy disks it replaces. The kit is completely plug compatible and supplied with all fixings.

The unit is also supplied with two formatted and ready-to-use USB sticks, compatible to the selected system version. Additional formatted USB sticks are available. A product version compatible for the robot controller model S3 is also available on request.
