VLT low harmonic drives

Thursday, 30 July, 2009 | Supplied by: Danfoss (Australia) Pty Ltd

The VLT Aqua Drive, VLT Automation Drive and VLT HVAC Drive are now available in a low harmonic version. The VLT low harmonic drive reduces the harmonic distortion and load on the supply network by actively imposing currents in counter phase, so that the high-quality sine wave of the network current is restored.

The introduction of the low harmonic version expands the range of harmonic mitigation solutions to meet increasing demands for ‘clean’ power supply networks, including advanced passive filters and software tools for simulation, product selection, set-up and analysis.

These drives are built on a modular technology platform and share features like high energy efficiency, back-channel cooling and user-friendly operation. Due to the modular principle, most elements are produced in large scale, leading to cost-effective production.

VLT low harmonic drives are motor friendly, with output impulse and shaft voltages compatible with motors conforming to IEC 60034-17/25, as per standard VLT drives.

The drives meet the toughest harmonic recommendations and give the user full readout of the unit performance towards the network, including graphical overview of network behaviour.

Supplied in voltage ranges 380-480 V, 50-60 Hz, and power ranges of 132-630 kW (high overload) and 160-710 kW (normal overload), these drives have a harmonic performance of less than 5% THiD, and have a >0.98 true power factor.

The drives are suitable for installation in low-voltage supply networks including: networks with limited spare power; weak supply networks; and generator-powered installations or installations with generator back-up.
