The Gossen Metrawatt Profitest PV tester allows for measurement of characteristic I-U curves and individual solar panel photovoltaic modules and strings.

The Profitest PV is a high precision and fast measurement (20 ms) PV testing system, and can ascertain peak power, internal series resistance and internal parallel resistance directly on-site. This is achieved with only one measurement and without the need to enter the manufacturer’s module data.

The unit features an internal data memory for up to several thousand measurements and measures short circuit current ISC, open circuit voltage UOC, instantaneous peak power of a solar cell Pmax, internal resistance RS and internal parallel resistance RP. Automatic conversion of momentary measured values to STC is performed.

The patented calculation process performs automatic evaluation of photovoltaic generators - without the need for knowledge of manufacturer’s specifications, with a customer and module database of more than 30,000 modules. Separate measurements of temperatures are taken, at the irradiation sensor and at the back of the module under test, for increased measuring accuracy.

There is a high level of intrinsic safety with the unit, due to the integral 1000 V/32 A DC load disconnector. Testing and troubleshooting of PV systems as well as documenting of system quality are executed quickly and economically during startup and subsequent testing without a long learning curve, with software for graphic visualisation, evaluation and report generation with the integrated database.
