IEC USB-IDIO series USB isolated I/O module

The IEC USB-IDIO series is suitable for adding portable, easy-to-install isolated input and solid-state output capabilities to any computer with a USB port. The USB-IDIO series are USB 2.0 high-speed devices, offering the highest speed available with the USB bus. A number of input and output configurations are available.

The USB-IDIO-16 features 16 solid-state MOSFET switch outputs and 16 optically isolated digital inputs. Either DC or AC sources can be used to drive the isolated non-polarised inputs. The fully protected isolated outputs are de-energised at power-up to prevent unintended control output signals. The unit contains an internal, removable screw termination board with onboard removable screw terminals to simplify wiring connections.

Optically isolating the digital inputs from each other and from the computer ensures smooth, error-free data transmission in noisy, real-world industrial environments. These boards are especially useful in applications where high common-mode external voltages are present. Isolation guards electronics from transient voltage spikes and offers greater common-mode noise rejection from electronically noisy surroundings containing machinery and inductive loads. In addition to protecting industrial applications from accidental contact with high external voltages, the isolation also eliminates ground loops.

The PCBs are PC/104 sized (9 x 9.6 cm) and ship inside steel powder-coated enclosures with anti-skid bottoms. A DIN rail mounting option is available.

The OEM (board only) versions are suitable for a variety of embedded applications. The boards can be added to any PC/104, PCI-104, or PCI/104-Express stack that has a processor with a USB port. The USB-IDIO series OEM boards can also be installed using standoffs inside other enclosures or systems.

The USB-IDIO series is supported by most USB-enabled operating systems and includes a Linux, Mac OS X and Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 compatible software package, embedded OS support including Windows XPe and example LabVIEW Vis.
