Surge in demand for Profibus training
The Profibus Association of Australia (PAA) has responded proactively to an expected spike in demand for certified Profibus training by scheduling a new series of courses in May and November 2011 to be conducted by leading international Profibus trainer Andy Verwer.
Over the past few months, enquiries for Profibus training have risen significantly compared to previous years. The most interest has been from Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria where a large number of capital works projects are in progress, or will commence over the next 12 months. Most prominent among these are the $2bn Karara iron project in Western Australia and the Melbourne desalination project in Victora. Both process plants have invested heavily in Profibus as their fieldbus communication platform.
“We’ve seen a growing acceptance of Profibus throughout industry and manufacturing over the last six years, due largely to its speed and reliability,” says PAA Chairman John Immelman. “But, what is more pleasing for the PAA is the commitment end users now have for demanding that all involved technicians, installers and engineers have certified Profibus qualifications.
“From the very start, our message on training has been consistent - without expert knowledge on Profibus technology, particularly in the design and installation of networks, communication issues will occur and breakdowns will follow,” explains Immelman.
Andy Verwer’s 2011 Certified Profibus Courses will commence in Perth (9 May), followed by Melbourne (16 May) and Brisbane (23 May). The popular and in-demand Certified Profibus Installer, Certified Profibus Engineer and non-certified Commissioning and Maintenance courses will be held again.
Andy Verwer’s tour will culminate in Sydney on 30 May with an advanced, one-day Profibus Control System Design course to be held at the Profibus International Competence Centre at Smithfield.
