Schneider Electric to deliver integrated electrical solution for Roy Hill Project
Samsung C&T has selected Schneider Electric to deliver 12 switch rooms and supply electrical distribution equipment for the Roy Hill Project in the Pilbara region. The project is a 55 million tonne per annum iron ore mining, rail and port project.
Samsung C&T, the lead engineering, procurement and construction provider for Roy Hill, selected Schneider Electric to deliver an integrated electrical solution, which will include:
- Medium-voltage equipment
- Low-voltage power distribution
- Variable speed drives
- Uninterruptible power supplies
- DC battery chargers
- Cooling equipment for switchrooms
The total solution will power all facilities at the purpose-built world-class port. Due to the environmental conditions, the solution also had to comply with strict requirements relating to safety, seismic and cyclone activity as well as a number of other Australian standards.
With Roy Hill aiming to load its first shipment of ore for export in 2015 from Port Hedland, responsiveness and the ability to deliver on time were critical to Schneider Electric’s success.
“Our experience both locally and globally within the mining and oil and gas industry helped us put forward a complex bid in a timely manner. Our global presence in the mining sector also allowed our teams in Australia and Korea to work collaboratively with Samsung C&T,” said Joe Craparotta, VP Energy Business, Schneider Electric.
“Our project commitment will also include site supervision for installation and commissioning. Energy-intensive environments are one of our core areas of expertise and I’m really proud of the technical complexity delivered by our team in such a short time frame.”
