Safety seminars augment trade show
Free workshops and seminars in tandem with The Safety Show Sydney on 25-27 October will provide visitors with an opportunity to learn all about the new workplace safety setting and its impacts.
The Safety Show Sydney, along with Sydney Materials Handling and Bulkex co-located at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, will together present one of the most feature-packed events of its kind in the country.
Safe Work Australia, which is developing model Work Health Safety Regulations, model Codes of Practice and a national compliance and enforcement policy to support the WHS Act, will hold seminars on the status of work health and safety harmonisation across the states.
WorkCover NSW will hold workshops on occupational health and safety, workers compensation and injury management. The workshops will look at high-risk industries such as construction and manufacturing, and small to medium-sized businesses. There will also be a presentation on why and how OHS legislation is changing and what to expect in the lead-up to implementation on 1 January 2012.
Norton Rose Australia, an international legal practice, will present on the duties and impact of WHS reforms, and conduct an interactive role-play and mock trial on incident management.
The mock trial will use a case study to follow the progression of an incident from immediate aftermath, to investigation, ending with OHS prosecution.
In addition, the Australian Warehousing Association will conduct seminars on topics such as licensing, rent or buy, supply chain management and risk. There will also be a national forklift competition on the show floor, for ‘best male’ and ‘best female’ driver.
The seminar and workshop program has been drawn up over the three days to give visitors an opportunity to attend as many presentations as possible. Although the seminars are free, bookings will be essential.
