Roadshow training workshops get a revamp

Wednesday, 29 May, 2013

Over the past nine years, the Process Technology Roadshows have been attended by thousands of engineers. This year, the training workshops have been revamped.

This year’s roadshow series sees a major revision of the workshops, with new content and session styles incorporating some of the latest PC-based remote access and process control technologies.

The 2013 event will feature three training sessions:

  • Training session 1: Engineering quiz on process instrumentation with prizes. Attendees will be broken into teams for this fun quiz, with prizes of valuable books awarded for correct answers.
  • Training session 2: Demonstration - Design and construct a closed circuit TV (CCTV) system for a mine site and analyse the network traffic.
  • Training session 3: Demonstration - Using tunnelling to connect a local OPC client to a remote OPC server via the internet.

In addition, three Mini Lab sessions will be conducted:

  • Mini Lab 1: Substation automation. All substations today combine electrical power systems protection with industrial communications systems, such as ethernet. Attendees will perform basic troubleshooting of a typical industrial ethernet system.
  • Mini Lab 2: Modbus/TCP. Attendees will simulate and troubleshoot a Modbus/TCP Master communicating with a Modbus/TCP Slave over IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi).
  • Mini Lab 3: Attendees will troubleshoot a tuning problem with a flow loop, examining the operation of a flow loop and improving the tuning to make a highly responsive loop.

Notebook computers will be provided for the Mini Lab sessions.
