Joint approach to digital mining — have your say

Alternate Futures has recently been commissioned by METS Ignited to undertake a feasibility study on a potential Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for the Digital Mine.

A Digital Mine CRC will include industry, so that research collaborations to make sure effective digital solutions to mining problems are found.

This will include looking at both the technologies (eg, sensing, robotics, AI, VR/AR etc), the data they generate and how it is analysed and used, and at the co-commitments around systems, skills and knowledge that organisations and the industry as a whole need to apply collectively to get the required business results.

The aim is to engage miners, METS companies and expertise from outside the mining industry where they are developing products and services that could easily be adapted to mining.

A survey forms part of the stakeholder engagement for the feasibility study. It will be complemented with workshops or 1:1 interviews. The survey takes up to 40 minutes to complete (about 20 minutes for the first half, second half optional).

The first half of the survey is about your company and your company’s views on the following topics:

  • Demographics — Company
  • Demographics — Research & Innovation
  • The Tech Landscape
  • Collaboration
  • The How & Why of Digital Transformation in the Mining Industry
  • Convincing the C-suite/Board/Investment Committee
  • Industry Tools — Engaging with METS
  • Skills & Knowledge

The second half seeks your answers to multiple choice questions to help us populate a ‘rash map’ (matrix) of where in the mining value chain is the most demand for various digital technologies.

The surveys are below (only do one):

Alternate Futures will share with respondents the final aggregated rash map. Please contact Alex Atkins at Alternate Futures with your preferred times and locations for workshops scheduled for capital cities in July 2018.
