Grants to help WA industries cut greenhouse gas emissions

The Western Australian Government has announced a $15 million grants program has been launched to help WA's heavy industry transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The Carbon Innovation Grants Program focuses on cutting-edge technologies to remove, reduce or offset emissions from industrial processes. WA's mining, manufacturing and construction sectors contribute almost 60% of the state's recorded carbon emissions.

The grants will be delivered through two funding streams:

  • Feasibility studies ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 to help technology to progress from concept to 'real world' trials;
  • Pilot projects and capital works ranging from $100,000 to $1.5 million to support real-world testing of innovative technologies from pilot stage to full-scale deployment.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation will distribute the grants in three rounds, with approximately $4 million available each year until 2025.

"This is an exciting opportunity to help WA industries invest in new technologies to cut their emissions,” said Environment and Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby. "The McGowan government is committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, and we encourage industries to embrace innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

"Action on climate change is crucial to diversifying WA's economy, create long-term jobs and manage environmental impacts."

Applications close on 16 December. For more information on the grants or application process, visit the Carbon Innovation Grants Program website.
