GE opens $100m LNG support/learning centre in Perth
Global conglomerate Genral Electric (GE) has opened a $100 million technology and learning complex in Perth, its first in-country support and maintenance centre for the oil and gas industry.
The service centre, in the southern suburb of Jandakot, will provide skills development and maintenance services for equipment used in liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing trains.
Chevron Australia, which operates the multi-billion dollar Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects in WA’s Pilbara region, is one of the energy companies set to train hundreds of its Perth engineering and technical staff at the facility.
GE Australia and New Zealand chief executive and president Steve Sargent said Australia would be the biggest exporter of LNG in the world by 2020.
Qatar is currently the world’s top LNG producer.
