Beaconsfield mine rescue hero to speak at Hazards Australasia 2015
Darren Flanagan, one of the 2006 Beaconsfield mine collapse rescue heroes, will speak at Hazards Australasia 2015. The conference takes place in Brisbane, Australia, 26-27 May 2015.
Flanagan is an explosives expert who specialises in risk management and will give an insider’s view of this dramatic and first-of-its-kind rescue.
IChemE Director Australasia Peter Slane says that Flanagan’s conference dinner talk will highlight key points around safety and risk management.
“Flanagan will join other guest speakers, including Dr M Sam Mannan from the US Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Centre who will be delivering the inaugural Trevor Kletz memorial lecture.”
Other experts sharing their lessons learned from a safety perspective are Stephen Angus from Inmarsat Aviation, former BP refinery manager Kathy Hirschfeld, crisis communication expert Allan Briggs and IChemE Safety Centre Director Trish Kerin. Managing Director ACT Australia Susan Fleming will also lead a theatre-style re-enactment of the Deepwater Horizon incident, as part of her Deepwater Safety Workshop at the event.
The conference will feature over 35 oral presentations from leading industry practitioners, researchers and regulators and will host a trade show of process safety-related products and services.
Topics covered at the conference include: lessons learned from major hazard incidents; management of abnormal operations; process safety design and inherently safer design; regulatory compliance and legislation; human factors; asset integrity and extending the operation life span of infrastructure; safety management systems; education and training; and process safety key performance indicators.
