Automation and robotics to be a key theme at NMW 2018
In three weeks’ time, thousands of manufacturing decision-makers will arrive at Sydney Showground for National Manufacturing Week 2018.
Taking place from 9–11 May, this year’s event will see more than 200 leading manufacturing suppliers and over 50 world-class speakers under one roof for Australia’s largest showcase of manufacturing innovation, learning and collaboration. NMW provides attendees with the opportunity to have meaningful conversations with thousands of senior industry decision-makers.
The Automation and Robotics Zone is one of 11 product zones at National Manufacturing Week. The exhibition floor will showcase traditional automation and robotics solutions to assistive technologies, including collaborative robots and augmentation solutions. The conference program will address some of the main concerns of the industry around automation and robotics, such as digitally enabling the existing workforce, while also examining some the opportunities automation and robotics represent.
A couple of the highlights at this year’s event will be two case studies related to robotics and augmented reality (AR).
In a presentation by Universal Robots titled ‘Collaborative robots in the manufacturing process — the importance of the ecosystem’, Darrell Adams will describe how cobots have changed the game for small manufacturers, helping them compete more effectively while offering new opportunities for employees and improving workers’ safety. The presentation will focus on the robot ecosystem, being the simple integration of a robot using plug-and-produce accessories and ancillaries.
Bruce Sneddon of DXC Technologies will meanwhile present ‘Digitally Enabling the Manufacturing Workforce’, describing how digital technologies like AR have enabled manufacturers to innovate and increase the digitisation of their operations through business-aligned technology.
