Australians shortlisted for IChemE Awards

Australia has been well represented in the shortlists of the 2012 Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Innovation and Excellence Awards, announced on 18 September.

The CSIRO is shortlisted for the Core Chemical Engineering Award for its project ‘Chaotic Process Engineering: Energy, Productivity, Quality’. The CSIRO won an IChemE Award in 2011.

Monash University has made the list twice for its project ‘Spelled out in Blood’: a low-cost, text reporting blood-typing diagnostic device. The university is in the running for the Health and Safety Award and the Innovative Product of the Year Award.

Representing the sunshine state is the University of Queensland’s John Zhu, shortlisted for the Innovator of the Year Award.

In the running for the Food and Drink Award is the University of Adelaide’s project ‘A New Analytical Tool for Quantitative Process Safety - Friday 13th risk modelling’.

The award winners will be announced at the 2012 Awards Dinner on 1 November in Manchester. The best overall shortlisted entry will be presented with the top prize of the 2012 Awards program, the Outstanding Achievement in Chemical Engineering Award, which is sponsored by BP.
